Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about ordering, pricing, and production before you submit.
Production Time
Production times are business days only and don't include shipping transit time. The clock starts once your order and artwork are both approved and paid.
Rush production is available on any order that qualifies for screen print, for an added cost. 2, 3, and 4-day rush ship on Fast Track colors; 5-day rush is available on any color. DTF Digital Print doesn't have a rush tier. 5 business days is its standard and only speed.
*Production time may vary depending on season.
Ordering & Minimums
Screen printing has a 72-piece minimum. Orders under 72 pieces automatically print via DTF Digital Print instead, which has no minimum.
No. The order page shows your price live as you pick garments, sizes, print colors and production time, so you know your total before you submit. We double-check every order and email a final order approval before anything is charged.
CHIPS is based in Fort Branch, Indiana, and has been decorating apparel since 1979. We ship orders all over the continental United States, and ordering online works the same whether you’re down the road or across the country.
Fast Track garments are kept in stock locally and ship faster (10 business days standard production) at a better price. Everything else is sourced from our garment vendor as needed, at 15 business days standard. Same quality either way, just more lead time since it's not sitting on our shelf.
One nuance: Fast Track status applies per color, not the whole garment. Some Fast Track styles carry more colors than we keep in ready stock. If you pick one of those, that item (and the rest of your order) runs on the standard 15-day timeline instead. Each garment's page marks exactly which colors qualify.
Yep, as long as it's all the same design. You can mix and match styles, colors, and sizes, all within a single order. The one rule: one order = one design. If you need a second, different design, that's a separate order.
One thing to note if you're mixing adult and youth sizes: with screen printing, the design prints at one fixed size across the whole order, so adult garments get the same print size as what it takes to fit the youth ones. With DTF Digital Print, we size the design separately for adult and youth garments at no extra cost. One more perk of going DTF!
Pricing & Payment
Yes. Each print location is priced independently based on how many colors it uses. More locations or more colors per location increases the price per piece.
After you submit your order, we review it and your artwork, then send an order and art approval along with a payment link. Production doesn't start until both are approved and paid.
Standard design help or redraws are $25/hr. Don’t worry, most art fees are only charged for 1 hour. We will contact you if it’s more. Complex artwork gets a custom quote.
Screen Print vs. DTF
Screen printing pushes ink through a screen, one screen per color. It’s usually the most cost-effective method at 72+ pieces. DTF Digital Print prints your full-color design onto a film that’s heat-pressed onto the garment. It’s great for small orders, photos, and designs with lots of colors. The order page picks the method that fits your quantity and colors automatically.
Up to 8 colors per print location. Designs with 1–7 colors per location can be screen printed from 72 pieces; 8-color designs need at least 144 pieces. Designs with 9 or more colors, or orders under the minimum, print with DTF Digital Print instead, which has no color limit.
Order Changes & Mistakes
Yes. You've got the entire window from the moment you submit your order right up until you approve it and payment goes through, so there's plenty of time to catch anything you want to tweak. Want to bump up your quantity, swap a color, fix a typo? Just reach out and we'll take care of it. Once your order's approved and paid, that's the green light to order your garments and move it into production.
All orders go through a quality control process on our end before they ship, but we won't claim that catches everything. Defects may still slip through, so when your order arrives, please check it over for any issues. There is a 72-hour policy from delivery to report any claim. Contact us at orders@chipstees.com with any questions or concerns. Reference your order number and attach photos when you reach out.
Then we own it, no argument. If what showed up doesn't match the art proof you approved, or you received the wrong garment, we'll reprint the affected pieces at no cost to you. Email orders@chipstees.com within 72 hours of delivery with your order number and what's wrong, and we'll get it sorted. We will send you a prepaid UPS label to ship the misprinted/defective shirts back to us.
Sure can. Just give us a shout with your name (and order number if you have it, though we're not sticklers about it), and we'll pull up what you ordered before. Since there's no online account or saved-design system on this site yet, reordering means placing a new order with the same details. It’s easiest done with a quick call or email so we can match it exactly.
Production & Shipping
See the production time chart above for the full breakdown by method and speed. DTF runs 5 business days, screen print runs 10 business days on Fast Track colors or 15 business days on the rest of the lineup, and rush options can bring screen print down to as fast as 2 business days on Fast Track colors, or 5 business days on any color, for an added cost.
No. Production time is business days only and doesn't include shipping transit time. Build in a few extra days if you're working toward a hard deadline.
Once your order and artwork are both approved and payment is received, not when you first submit the order.
Yes. Every order ships free to any address in the continental United States. Shipping is already included in the price you see on the order page, so there’s no shipping charge added later.
Not yet. We currently ship to the continental United States only. That's also where the free shipping applies. Alaska, Hawaii, and international orders aren't available right now, though it's something we'd like to offer down the road.
Group Orders & Sizing
Totally normal question, and you're not alone in staring at a blank order form wondering if you need more Larges or XLs. A reasonable starting split for a general adult group (if you don't already know your crowd) is roughly 15% Small, 35% Medium, 30% Large, 15% XL, and 5% 2XL. Adjust up or down if you know your group runs bigger or smaller (a construction crew and a book club are going to need very different breakdowns). When in doubt, order a few extra. It's a lot easier to have one spare shirt than to be one short at kickoff.
Every garment's product page has real manufacturer measurements (chest width, body length, sleeve length, the whole spec sheet) pulled straight from the source, not estimated. Measure a shirt you already own and love the fit of, compare it to those numbers, and you'll be in good shape.
It's one of those small moves that separates a smooth order from a stressful one: build a little cushion into your count. Screen printing and DTF are physical, real-world processes. Even with careful production, it's standard across the industry to expect that around 2% of pieces on any run might not come out print-perfect. Padding your order by a few pieces, especially in your most-ordered sizes, means you're covered without missing a beat if that happens, with no scrambling for a rush reprint right before your event. Think of it as cheap insurance for a big day, not an extra expense.
One perk of Fast Track colors: since those ship from our own ready stock, they're guaranteed no spoilage. The 2% cushion is really only worth thinking about for garments and colors outside the Fast Track lineup.
Artwork
Vector files print best (.ai, .eps, .pdf, or .svg) and are a must for screen print. For DTF, we can also use high-res .psd, .tif, and .png files saved with a transparent background. Don't have a file yet? That's fine, leave it blank on your order and we'll follow up.
No problem. The order form asks about this directly, and our design team can help get it there (see design fee above).
Only if you own it or have permission to use it. We can't print copyrighted logos, sports team names, or someone else's artwork without written permission from whoever owns it. That's not us being difficult, that's just how copyright law works, and it protects you as much as it protects us. Got an idea inspired by something? Great, let's make it originally yours instead.
Good news: you've got more room to work with than you might think. Here's the full rundown by placement, organized by decoration method, since screen print and DTF have slightly different limits.
Screen Print
| Placement | Standard Width | Max Size |
|---|---|---|
| Front Center | 12" | 13"W × 14"H |
| Front Center (Ladies) | 10" | 10"W × 14"H |
| Front Center Hoodie | 12" | 13"W × 10"H |
| Front Left/Right Chest | 4" | 4.5"W × 4.5"H |
| Above Left/Right Pocket | 3.5" | 4.5"W × 4.5"H |
| On Pocket | 3" | 3"W × 3"H |
| Left/Right Side | 4" | 4"W × 14"H |
| Back Center | 12" | 13"W × 14"H |
| Back Center (Reflective Tape) | 9" | 9"W × 10"H |
| Back Center (Ladies) | 10" | 10"W × 14"H |
| Back Left/Right Side | 4" | 4"W × 14"H |
| Below Hood | 12" | 13"W × 14"H |
| Upper Back Neck | 3.5" | 14"W × 15"H |
| Bicep (Short Sleeve) | 3.5" | 3.5"W × 4"H |
| Sleeve (Long Sleeve) | 3.5" | 3.5"W × 14"H |
| Leg (Pants/Shorts) | 3.5" | up to 3.5"W × 14"H |
| Thigh (Pants/Shorts) | 3.5" | 4"W × 4"H |
| Rear End | 10" | 10"W × 4.5"H |
| Youth Front/Back Center | 9" | 10"W × 11"H |
| Youth Hoodie Front | 9" | 10"W × 6.5"H |
| Onesie Front | 4" | 4"W × 8"H |
DTF Digital Print uses the same placements as above, with two differences: standard Front Center tops out a bit smaller (12"W × 12"H, since DTF transfers are cut to the design rather than screened edge-to-edge), and there's an Oversize Front Center option going up to 15"W × 19"H for anyone who wants to really make a statement.
Placement measurements are all from the bottom of the collar unless noted otherwise. Numbers here are standards, not hard limits carved in stone. If your design needs something a little different, tell us in the order notes and we'll figure out what actually fits your garment.
